Ben Birchall is a dilettante. In the best possible way. You might know him from hosting RRR’s Breakfasters, or through his writing, or perhaps he pitched to you in his capacity as a creative director. But underneath all of this, since 1996 he has released a steady trickle of music with noisy popsters Klinger, the taut and rootsy Corrections, the doo-wop uke of Duke Batavia or the widescreen indie of Slow Fades.

In 2025, Birchall is releasing his first truly solo material since 2004’s Year Of The Monkey EP, with longtime collaborator Dave Rogers and some new and unexpected faces. Watch this space for new music.

Press for Slow Fades ‘Canyon Songs’:

“Slow Fades achieve a slack magic. At the tail end of 2018 they sound not so much as they’re of a different time, but rather from another planet altogether. For that reason they may remain overlooked. However, given the band members’ pedigree, this EP is like a gateway into an entirely more beautiful world.”
